2/20/2011 We've been to all the local sushi haunts in the Salem/Beverly area, and this is hands-down the best one- fresh fish, great service, and very speedy, even on a Friday night.
In addition to old standbys like the spicy tuna roll and house salad with ginger dressing, the menu here features a number of rolls that you can only imagine in your wildest dreams.
Our picks: the lava roll, the firecracker roll, and the double tuna.

12/27/2010 This is best sushi I have ever had. I love all the delicious and creative maki rolls. The wait staff is friendly and polite. I would highly reccomend this place to anyone who loves sushi or to someone who has never treied it. They have many rolls that are cooked and any raw rolls they will cook if you ask. It is definately the gem of peabody!

12/3/2010 I've been to Maki 4+ times now. I'm hooked, the fish is incredibly fresh, the rolls are unique as they come. A few of my favorite rolls would have to be the Sumo roll, the Peabody, the Firecracker roll, the Spicy tuna roll and I think the Tuna Kobaichi is the tops. Both White Tuna and Mackerel sashimi are also favorites of mine. Yum think I'll go tonight.

10/11/2010 I got some to-go food from there for me and one other. Let me start out with what a great little place this is! Very clean and a very aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. Amy the waitress who took my order was very pleasant, offered me a beverage while I waited. You could see how fresh the seafood is in a small display and watch Chef John make the sushi from it right there in front of you. The plates he sent out looked great. I brought the food home I had a Tuna Onigiri(hope I spelled that right) He had the seafood martini and we split the avocado salad. It was all delicious. Not bland but not over sauced or spiced. You can taste just how fresh all the ingredients are. Not only that but he spent as much time and care making sure the presentation on the to-gos was great as well. I can't wait to go back again!
Edit: Been back a couple times now. Same great service and all their food is awesome! If you can go for lunch the Bento box is the best deal. Get that and a couple pieces of sushi or a roll to try them you won't be disappointed!

9/2/2010 North Shore sushi lovers rejoice! If you're a fan of fun and creative maki rolls... welcome to heaven. We've done take-out twice in the short time that they've been open and have been impressed by both the variety of rolls (almost 60!) and the quality of the ingredients - I don't know if I've ever eaten fresher or cleaner tasting raw fish.
Tonight we had the butterfly roll (tempura white fish and creamy avocado topped with fresh strawberry and kiwi dressed with chili sauce), crab rangoon roll (tempura kanikama, cream cheese, masago, avocado and cucumber dressed with spicy mayo and kabayaki glaze), the mango roll (spicy tuna topped with fresh mango dressed with sweet chili sauce), the philly roll (smoked salmon, cream cheese, and avocado) and sweet potato roll (tempura sweet potato with kabayaki glaze) - all were simply amazing.
In a previous trip we got the maki special combo that came with a mexican roll (shrimp tempura, fresh jalapenos, and seven spice shichimi pepper dressed with spicy mayo), crunchy crab roll (tempura crunch mixed with kanikama salad), and sunset roll (avocado and kanikama salad topped with fresh salmon, thinly sliced lemon, drizzled sweet lemon-soy vinagairette), salad (awesome sesame oil dressing?) and miso soup - all for $18.
The restaurant is very clean and modern looking. A waitress mentioned that they will be offering many "happy-hour" food specials on Thursdays and Fridays from 5pm-7pm, which will include some maki rolls.
Maki Sushi Bar also has many non-sushi Japanese cuisine offerings that look tempting, but with so many rolls to try it might take us awhile before we pull ourselves off the maki trail.

9/2/2010 Went to Maki on Wednesday night with some friends. We sat at the bar and got to talk to Chef Jon. Their presentation was excellent and the food was even better. We ordered the 114 Sushi Roll, a Tuna Roll, a bunch of appetizers and everything was great. If you are in the north shore, and like sushi, def go try Maki on Main St Peabody.
